Artist Statement

“I love flowers. I think all humans are drawn to, and fascinated by flowers. They are with us in all moments of extremity. We offer them at birth, anniversaries, and every occasion of ceremony. We offer flowers for hope, for consolation and congratulation…they surround us at death.”

Born in Tauranga, New Zealand, Gabryel has lived, worked and exhibited in Vancouver BC since 1989. She earned her BFA at Ottowa University in 1983 and has continued her studies over the years including studying photography at Ryerson in Toronto, and earning a diploma in art therapy in Vancouver in 1991.
