On May 1, Steven was playing at a festival at Santa Clara High School when he fell from the top of an inflatable bounce house slide and landed headfirst on the asphalt, according to family and friends. Steven had to be rushed to the hospital and undergo emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. Part of his skull was removed and is now attached to his abdomen until it can be replaced.

The family has been overwhelmed by support from friends, schools, churches and complete strangers, she said.
