Junior midfielder Daniela Carrion, team captain for the Rivera Lady Raiders, said it's more important to play the games, despite the weather.
The Brownsville Veterans Memorial Lady Chargers are displaying improvement from one year ago. At 0 4 in 32 5A, they just don't have a win yet to show for that improvement.

Cold forces area teams to adjust
"The players love to play in cold weather," Rivera Raiders coach Salvador Garcia said. "I guess when you play against another Brownsville team, there's no heat, there's no cold, the players just want to get it on against each other.
"The cold weather can be nice to have (now and then) when you come from a city that is 90 percent heat (all the time)," Carrion said. "It's a good, little change, and once you're on the field, you don't really feel it, but once the game stops, yes, you do feel the cold."
"We played our hearts out against Rivera," Lady Chargers coach Luis Troncoso said. "We had a player go down with an injury unfortunately, and we hope that she's doing fine now. We had to regroup after that (in the second half), and our girls came back to score a goal. We fell short, but we've just got to continue working at it.
Added Lady Raiders coach Thomas Brashear, "Cold weather is part of soccer. It's nice that we can come to a turf field Omega Speedmaster Moon Phase
"Well, it was 38 degrees for our (Wednesday) game against Porter, but I think that our girls are used to this (cold) weather because we've played and practiced in similar conditions," Del Angel said. "However, sometimes the weather can be a factor which can affect a team either in favor or against (that team)."

The Lady Chargers have played some close games during their first four district outings. They've come up just a little short against Porter (2 1 penalty kicks), Harlingen South (3 1), Hanna (2 1) and Rivera (2 1).
Against Rivera on Wednesday at Sams, the Lady Chargers trailed 2 0, but Sabrina Rebaldo's goal midway through the second half made things interesting, even though the Lady Raiders held on to Omega Yellow
